In the spring of my sophomore year at Maryville College, my class was given the assignment to individually redesign a book cover of our choice. I chose The Uninhabitable Earth, by David Wallace-Wells, due to its original cover design lacking the portrayal of the warnings and dangers expressed in the book. My intention was to invoke a clear feeling of urgency through my redesign. Instead of a warm white background, I chose a deep charcoal to reflect the dark topics of the book. To connect with the overarching topic of global warming, I changed the image of a weakened bee to a delicate dandelion set on fire. I chose a clean, monospaced font for the majority of the text with the goal for it to look futuristic and code-like. A bright orange-red is incorporated to further convey urgency and alertness.
